So far I am taking baby steps toward reporting at K24. While I know journalism quite well (thanks, Medill) I am still learning the city, the language and the leagues, so my department has been holding my hand a bit in the reporting department. For my first assignment, I was told the Sofapaka Football Club would be giving away a check for 100,000 shillings to a lucky fan. The handing over of the giant check was part of a fan promotion called Score Hao Na Sofapaka (or, Win a House with Sofapaka). Anyone in Kenya can text the team and get entered to win a 2.3 million shilling house. They give away houses here, apparently. But though my assignment started out hokey, I was glad to see the footage better lent itself to a story on roster moves.
Since English and Swahili are both widely spoken, you may or may not have any idea what's going on here....
